Wilco’s Nels Cline, others to speak at day-long Music University event

The Des Moines Music Coalition will host a day-long Music University event Oct. 19 at Drake University featuring a keynote speech by Wilco guitarist Nels Cline. The day will feature speakers, workshops and more.
Other guests include Dick Prall (musician, assistant tour manager for Wilco), Brandon Darner (guitarist for The Envy Corps, producer for Imagine Dragons), Kieran Kelly (producer), Andrea Troolin (manager for Andrew Bird), Joan Hiller (publicist, Sub Pop Records), Matt LeMay (Pitchfork writer, member of Kleenex Girl Wonder), Dave Diebler (House of Large Sizes), Bob Nastanovich (Pavement), Steve Capp (engineer for Aretha Franklin), Tobi Parks (Copyright administrator forSony Music Entertainment), Andre Perry (Executive Director, The Englert Theatre; Director, Mission Creek Music Festival), Patrick Tape Fleming (The Poison Control Center), Marc Hogan (Writer for Pitchfork, Spin, Paste), Sam Summers (Wooly’s, First Fleet), Emma Peterson (Tikly, The Nadas), Jill Haverkamp (DMMC, On Pitch), Brandon Clarke (entertainment attorney), Tim Thelen (Bilt Guitars), Nate Logsdon (Maximum Ames, Mumford’s), Carrie Clogg (Civic Music Association), Thomas Swartwood (Entrepreneurship Professor, Drake University).
There will also be a post-conference concert by an act that will be announced on Sept. 3.
Registration starts Sept. 3. The fee is $25 in advance, $30 day of, $15 in advance for students and musicians, $20 day of. Registration will be done at desmoinesmc.com.
