What’s right with America?
A polarized electorate. A gridlocked Congress. Differences over same-sex marriage, health care, immigration and even the farm bill, once an emblem of bipartisan cooperation.
Sometimes these days, it seems there’s so much wrong with America.
Indeed, in a June Iowa Poll, 60 percent of Iowa adults said they believed the nation was on the wrong track.
As July 4th approached, the Register decided to challenge that perception.
We surveyed 50 everyday and notable Iowans (including the occupant of the nation’s highest elected office, who has spent a lot of time campaigning here). The question we asked: What’s right with America?
On this 237th anniversary of America’s independence, the collective response: A lot.
