The Hometown Holiday Hoedown

Friday: Des Moines metal band Dead Horse Trauma wraps up a busy year with the Hometown Holiday Hoedown starting at 5 p.m. at House of Bricks, 525 E. Grand Ave. The show also featured the first reunion show by the band deadfront, which features former members of Slipknot, Stone Sour, Downthesun and others. Also performing will be As for You and Corpse. $5, and canned food donations are encouraged. Go to thehouseofbricks.com.

Dropping bombs

Friday: Check out local comedy at The Bomb Shelter Comedy Showcase at 9 p.m. at Beechwood Lounge, 416 E. Walnut St. Andrew Lopez, Anthony Lobaito and others will crack you up. Free.

Confessions of a full-blown dork

Saturday: Des Moines native Steve Gronert Ellerhoff returns to sign his first novel, “Time’s Laughingstock,” at 2 p.m. at Beaverdale Books, 2629 Beaver Ave. Free.

Parranderos Latin Combo

Saturday: Des Moines’ Parranderos Latin Combo performs at 9:30 p.m. at Americana, 1312 Locust St. The band is performing to raise money to record its first album, which will be produced by Grammy winner Ramon Martinez. The group is heading to Puerto Rico in February to record. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Go to americanadsm.com.

Chadapalooza

Saturday: Bonne Finken headlines an evening of music starting at 9 p.m. at Gas Lamp, 1501 Grand Ave. Also on the bill are Holy White Hounds, Hath No Fury and the Iowa City band Velcro Moxie. The concert celebrates the birth of Chad Taylor, who uses words in a descriptive manner to cover music. $5. Go to gaslampdsm.com.

The Breast Christmas Pageant Ever

Saturday: The Iowa School of Burlesque breaks new ground in event name puns with The Breast Christmas Pageant Ever starting at 10 p.m. at Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St. The show features performances by Leo LaFlash, Maddie Moisselle, Phoenix L’amour and others. $8. Go to vaudevillemews.com.

Learning to fly

Sunday: “Peter Pan” closes out its run at the Des Moines Playhouse, 831 42nd St., with performances at 1 and 5 p.m. $23.
