Watch an exclusive clip from the Bacon Fest mockumentary
In 2013, Jason Cook directed a mockumentary that he filmed during the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. After more than a year of work, the film is completed and will have its premiere starting Thursday through May 22 at Fleur Cinema.
The Iowa Bacon Board was kind enough to share a clip from the movie with Juice, showing a fictionalized version of how a group of Icelandic bacon fans came to Des Moines.

The movie also features appearances by David Anthony Higgins, Andy Fales, Sen. Chuck Grassley, Gov. Terry Branstad, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, PETA, Mr. Baber’s Neighbors and many others.
The Thursday event premiere will be invitation only. After that showings will be at 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and May 19-22 and 11 a.m., 1:30, 4:20, 7 and 9:30 p.m. May 17-18.
Fleur Cinema always serves beer, but during the run of the film you will also be able to purchase bacon at the concession stand. It would be kind of cruel to make someone watch a movie about bacon and not have any available.
“State of Bacon” is opening the same weekend as “Godzilla.” If you have to choose between bacon and Godzilla, always bet on bacon. Plus, the last movie that open against Godzilla was “Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.” Sure, the Matthew Broderick movie stomped it at the time, but which one do you remember more lines from now?
