Two buck sliders and suds Wednesdays at Raccoon River

Sliders, songs, and suds are the specials you will find every Wednesday at Raccoon River.

Why Wednesday: Raccoon River knows how to entertain any crowd, from an after-hours pack to a big party. They entertain their guests on weekdays with their regular happy hour 3-6 p.m., serving $4 wells and $1 off house pints.

But the winning ticket is on Wednesdays, when there are specials on sliders and suds. Their slider selection includes the all American, bacon blues, barbecue pork, and the buffalo chicken. They may be small, but they are packed with flavor, and the price is right. They are only $2 each, so order more than one. Complement your sliders with crispy jalapeno caps or hand-cut fries for $2, and pick any of the house brews for $2.

The scene: I arrived around 7:30 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. The action was to the left of the bar, with live music. Raccoon River offers free live music every Wednesday and Saturday, and Mike Aceto did the honors the night I was there. He was playing his own acoustic rock tunes, and was entertaining a crowd of 10 who appeared to have come after work.

I ordered a bacon blues slider and sides of fries and jalapenos, plus a pint of homestead red. My drink arrived first, and my food a few minutes after. I was impressed with the slider, and would have paid more for it.

The staff said their Wednesday specials are slowly drawing a bigger crowd to Raccoon River, so it looks like word is getting out.
