Wednesday: Nineties power pop rocker Matthew Sweet plays Wooly’s, 504 E. Locust St., at 8 p.m. Sweet is known for songs like his top-10 hit “Girlfriend,” “The Ugly Truth” and “Sick of Myself.” Sweet’s 11th album, “Modern Art,” came out in 2011. Bonne Finken opens. $15-$17 through ticketfly.com.
Maximum Ames Records showcase
Thursday: Another Ames label, Maximum Ames, hosts a showcase at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wooly’s, 504 E. Locust St. Mumford’s, Gloom Balloon, The Lonely Hearts and Love Songs for Lonely Monsters perform starting at 7 p.m. $3 admission, but all Max Ames records sold at the show will be discounted by $3. Friday: Classic rock star Ted Nugent returns to play the Val Air Ballroom, 301 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, at 7 p.m. The Nuge is best known for hits like “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Wango Tango” and “Little Miss Dangerous,” as well as his outspoken views on hunting and politics. Laura Wilde opens. $30 in advance through Ticketmaster, $32 at the door.
Nova Labs launch party
Saturday: The new Ames record label Nova Labs will host a launch party/record release show at 8 p.m. at DG’s Tap House, 127 Main St., Ames. New albums by Unwavery, Liana and The Observer will be available, and Unwavery, Liana, Bumpin’ Uglies, Nude Girls and The Wheelers will perform. As a bonus, there will be a free taco bar. Free.
