Yonder Mountain String Band

Wednesday: Colorado bluegrass act Yonder Mountain String Band makes its annual pilgrimage to Des Moines for a 7 p.m. show at Simon Estes Amphitheater, 75 E. Locust St. The band is known for its improvisational style and for constantly changing up its set list. Devil Makes Three opens. $22.50 in advance through ticketfly.com, $25 day of show.

Blue Oyster Cult

Thursday: New York ‘70s hard rockers Blue Oyster Cult perform at 8 p.m. on the Budweiser Stage at the Iowa State Fair, East 30th Street and East University Avenue. The band is best known for the songs “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” “Godzilla” and “Burnin’ for You.” And not a single cowbell reference was made, impressive. Free stage. Go to iowastatefair.org.

The Dangerous Summer

Friday: Maryland pop punk act the Dangerous Summer performs at 4 p.m. at Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St. The band released its third album, “Golden Record,” this week, featuring the single “Catholic Girls.” Tommy and the High Pilots, Rare Monk and Breaking Laces open. $12 through ticketfly.com.

Reggae Festival

Saturday: Chicago’s Yabba Griffiths and Traxx headline the first Reggae Festival, starting at 5 p.m. at Wooly’s. Ras Congo, the Kata Reggae Band, Leradee and DJ Hype Man also perform, with Koolman hosting. $18 in advance through ticketfly.com, $20 day of show.
