Updated with comment from Kiley Stenberg:
In a Register profile on Badowers, the contemporary men’s store at 2817 Ingersoll Ave., Kevin Hansen, manager/buyer for Badowers, hinted at a future plans for its women’s sister store, Proper, in the East Village:
“Proper was officially launched this past summer, in 2013. It has exceeded our expectations and has been great,” Hansen said in the Register piece. “In fact, we have tentative plans to open a freestanding Proper store in spring 2015 in the East Village.”
Proper currently offers high quality women’s clothing from brands such as Barbour, Cynthia Rowley, Harvey Faircloth and Baldwin. Other women’s items include Wolverine boots and Lulu Frost jewelry. Kiley Stenberg oversees Proper.
Proper gained exposure as a pop-up store for women starting at locations around the metro in September, including Mr. B in Clive, the Fleming Building downtown, West Glen in West Des Moines and Eden in the East Village, before returning to Badowers.
“It was always a possibility that Proper would become it’s own full time store – and knowing that was a possibility from the beginning was even more motivation to make sure Proper succeeded during its pop ups,” Stenberg said by email Thursday. “The fall pop ups allowed us to test out new things and gauge success on a smaller scale. We are looking at a spring 2015 opening in East Village and have many exciting things in the works to expand Proper beyond what it’s original plan even was.”
