Sneaky credit card charges might cost you hundreds

Dealing with credit and debit cards can be tricky, right? We know this, but have you ever paid attention to those sneaky fees that add up at the end of the year? They might be costing you thousands. Some of those pesky fees can include when a subscription or membership is automatically renewed or when a “free trial” turns into an ongoing membership.

An analysis of 5,000 credit and debit card statements conducted by consulting firm Aite Group showed that charges like the ones previously mentioned average $61 per person and totaled up to $14.3 billion last year.

Almost 35 percent of cardholders experienced at least one of these sneaky charges last year. It averaged an annual total of $215 per person and one-third paid $100 and $500. Close to 10 percent paid $500 or more.
