Riverwalk Hub offers views, locally sourced food

An attractive, modern building, superb views and satisfying sandwiches make the The Riverwalk Hub a fun spot for lunch. During a recent lunch hour the small space bustled with people grabbing a beverage or ordering food at the counter.
The menu isn’t large, but sandwich options change frequently. I tried the turkey, bacon, tomato and smoked gouda ($6.50). All sandwiches are premade and can be warmed in the oven. The long, slim baguettes are hearty and crusty, and my sandwich had crisp bacon, juicy tomato and thick pieces of turkey.
The salmon, dill, cucumber and cream cheese sandwich also looked tasty, as did the salads ($8). Small pastries called Dangos in honor of the sculptures outside are available in savory or sweet versions for $1.
If you’re in search of an after-work drink, The Riverwalk Hub offers locally brewed beer, wine and coffee. And for appetizers by the river, ask the staff to put together a picnic platter of Iowa-sourced favorites like La Quercia meats and Maytag blue cheese paired with crackers or baguette slices.
Tables inside the building offer good views of the river, or if it’s a nice day you can also sit in chairs outside overlooking the water. Sandwiches are served in plastic wrappers, making them easy to hold while enjoying the view, or during the walk back to your office.
