Now open: East Village Pantry
A grocery store downtown is on the wishlist for a lot of residents. While it doesn’t have all the offerings of a Hy-Vee or Dahls, the newly opened East Village Pantry offers an option for groceries, beer and snacks downtown.
Shawn and Aileen Mahmood opened the the compact convenience store last week in the East Village Square Apartments building. Aileen Shaw said that couple had been looking for a space for a shop for a few years and saw the demand for one in the East Village. It’s got the basics like beer, liquor and cigarettes along with milk, meat, cheese, some vegetables and a canned goods room.
East Village Pantry is open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
