Meet the band: Twins
Published on April 8th, 2014 | by Joe Lawler
Members: Luke Sires (drums, vocals), Harper Sires (guitar, vocals), Joel Sires (guitar, vocals), Devin Ferguson (bass, vocals)
See them: 9 p.m. Friday at Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St.
There are three Sires in the Cedar Falls band Twins, but no actual twins. Brothers Harper and Joel both play guitar and sing, while cousin Luke handles drums. They’re all cousins of Dylan Sires, whose band Dylan Sires & Neighbors plays GDP on Saturday.
“We all kind of found music organically on our own,” Joel Sires said. “We all grew up in separate towns and really only got together in Cedar Falls over the last 10 years. We were all ready to hang out as a family and we happened to all be playin’ instruments.”
The only non-Sires in the band is bassist Devin Ferguson, whom Joel credits with providing the harmonies that sweeten his and Harper’s lead vocals. The vocal harmonies create a sound similar to The Beatles, a connection further fleshed out by the poppiness of the instrumentation.
Friday’s show is a release party for Twins’ second album, “Tomboys on Parade.” The album was released on CD and vinyl by Maximum Ames Records.
“I feel like when we started doing ‘Tomboys on Parade’ we had a clearer idea of what we wanted to accomplish,” Joel said. “It was recorded mostly live in the studio, trying to capture that rock & roll energy.”
