Briar Rabbit

Joe’s Jan. 22-28 playlist

Published on January 22nd, 2014 | by Joe Lawler

There’s some good variety in this week’s playlist. It kicks off with “American Idiot,” due to the musical hitting the Des Moines Civic Center this week. Then Keller Williams covering Flight of the Concords “I Told You I Was Freaky” off his latest album, “Funk.” He’ll be performing with a funk band tonight at DG’s Tap House.  Check out my interview here.

Then a song by Rebel Creek, whose singer Luke Davis was the Three Questions subject for this week. An acoustic Yellowcard song, a track by Imani Winds and closing out with “So Long” by Briar Rabbit, who plays tonight at the Gas Lamp. Briar Rabbit (real name: Phillip-Michael Scales) is the nephew of BB King, but it’s the strength of his song “So Long” that made me include him this week. It’s pretty great.
