Fair board flip-flop: Cash will be accepted at food concessions
Fairgoers will be able to use cash to buy their favorite foods at the 2014 Iowa State Fair after all.
The fair board this afternoon said it had canceled plans for a cashless system for food and some rides. On Tuesday, fair officials said cash would no longer be accepted at food concessions or the Giant Slide. Fairgoers would instead have to buy 50-cent tickets online or at more than 150 locations throughout the fairgrounds. The backlash was immediate. Gov. Terry Branstad on Wednesday weighed in, suggesting the board listen to howls of protest.
