In Her Wardrobe: Megan Staker, 29

In a sea of business casual-clad young professionals, Megan Staker stands out in style.

As an underwriter for Nationwide, Staker sees getting dressed each day as a simple way to keep her creative side alive, even in the corporate world of khaki-filled cubicles. Occasionally her quirky office style garners second glances from her co-workers, but for Staker, that’s a compliment. “I just can’t do boring,” she said, “I dress how I feel. It’s a way to express myself.”

She recently found another way to express herself by starting a fashion blog. The Peach Polka Dot is a light-hearted look at Staker’s wardrobe, her style inspirations and a little glimpse into her life. Photographing and writing about her personal style has challenged Staker to be even more creative with her closet. Mixing and matching clothes, shoes and accessories provides endless outfit options and challenges Staker to think outside the box when it comes to fashion. Finding versatility in her wardrobe also helps keep the avid bargain-shopper on a budget. She lists H&M, Forever 21, Target and the Von Maur sale racks as favorite places to score great deals.

She finds inspiration in fellow bloggers, but also in her surroundings. “The live music scene in Des Moines brings out a stylish crowd,” she said. “It’s always fun to see what everyone is wearing.”
