UPDATE: Corey Taylor clarified Root’s involvement in Slipknot with this tweet:
Jim and I are still working together in Slipknot and the album is almost done.

Earlier today on the Stone Sour Facebook page the Des Moines band posted that guitarist Jim Root is no longer a member of the band:
“As some of you might have heard by now, Stone Sour and Jim Root have indeed parted ways. We were trying to wait until the completion of the new SK album, but in light of recent events, we are going to confirm this information and move on. We feel it’s best for both bands and hope that is reflected in the days to come. We will give you more information when the time comes”.
“SK” above is short for Slipknot, the other band Root plays guitar for. In January Root announced that he wouldn’t be touring with Stone Sour on its winter tour to work on the Slipknot album.
Yesterday on his Instagram page, a fan asked Root if he would be performing at Stone Sour’s shows this summer. Root responded:
“I’m not in that band anymore. Not my decision. Not happy about it.”
Root was a member of Stone Sour when singer Corey Taylor left the band to join Slipknot and Root followed Taylor to that band in 1999.
There’s no word if this affects Root’s involvement in Slipknot. Slipknot split with founding member Joey Jordison in December.
