Check out some of the biggest events happening around Des Moines.

Downtown Des Moines

Juice Costume Contest (Friday): Stop by the Court District’s Halloween party at Court Ave. Brewing Co., 309 Court Ave., from 9 to 11 p.m. and have your photo taken by Juice staff. You’ll see your photos from our pop-up studio at and will be entered in our costume contest, which has $1,000 in prizes. See finalists and vote for your favorite starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Historic Court District Halloween Party (Friday): Benefiting the Historic Court District Association, this event includes a costume contest with $2,500 in cash prizes. Wristbands will be sold at participating bars and restaurants. To enter the Court District’s costume contest, have your photo taken at Juice’s pop-up studio at Court Avenue Brewing Co. from 9 to 11 p.m. Category winners will be announced at the Venue at midnight. Court Ave. District, 8 p.m.-midnight. $5.

Misfits Karaoke Halloween Ball (Friday): Karaoke to classic horror punk from Misfits along with a live band. Costumes are encouraged. Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St., doors open at 9:30 p.m. Free.

Night of the Living Dead Moines: Rex Manning’s Revenge (Oct. 31): Relive your favorite ’90s hits. The evening starts with DJ Nice Kicks, then Mint performs as Blink-182, Volcano Boys channel Weezer, Surf Niagara performs as Bush, and Karen Meat & the Players rock out as Hole. Survive Paint Wars: Halloween Edition (Friday): This all-ages party features a DJ, a costumed dance party and 500 gallons of washable Halloween-colored paint that will be dumped on the crowd. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Oct. 31): Val Air Ballroom is bringing back the tradition with an interactive viewing of this cult classic. Halloween Pub Crawl (Saturday): Starting in West Glen and hitting up spots across the metro, this pub crawl provides transportation plus free cover and drink specials at included bars.
