Fistfight at Big Tomato: Did refusing service to gay man spark conflict?

Des Moines police are investigating a fight at a popular Des Moines restaurant reportedly sparked by an employee refusing to serve a gay man.

The confrontation at Big Tomato Pizza, 2613 Ingersoll Ave., early Saturday left three people with injuries.

Yeymi Tobar and Jacob Miller told police Big Tomato employee Matthew Wesley Donner, 34, refused to serve Miller and called him a derogatory name and then punched both Tobar and Miller. Donner, though, said the clash began when he asked an intoxicated Miller to leave the restaurant and Miller refused, according to a police report.
