Update on downtown food trucks: City Council may lighten up on mobile food vendors

What do the people want? Food trucks. When do they want them? Now.

Juice readers have been very vocal about their want for more food trucks in Des Moines and the City Council is considering making those requests a reality.

The Des Moines City Council reviewed its food truck regulations to see if they should make any necessary changes that will allow food trucks to operate downtown in an easier manner.

Council members Brian Meyer and Chris Hensley pushed for making a district starting from the East Village to the Western Gateway that would have different regulations from other parts of Des Moines.

Council member Hensley put an emphasis on the concerns of local police being considered. Police had concerns about unruly crowds when food trucks were banned two years ago in the downtown are between 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
