Last week you saw Timmy Gorman, 30, featured in our tattoo issue, this week you’ll see him on the 18h season of the UFC series “The Ultimate Fighter,” which premieres Wednesday on Fox Sports 1.
Gorman is one of 32 fighters competing on the series, fighting in the bantamweight division. Gorman can’t reveal how he did on the show, which filmed over six weeks in Las Vegas, but he does think it will get him to his longtime goal of fighting in the UFC.
“When I tried out, I didn’t really care about being on the show. My dream in life is to fight in the UFC and fight with some of the best in the world,” Gorman said. “I knew ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ was my ticket to make it into the UFC.”
Before filming Gorman trained at Des Moines gyms like Team Porcelli, Roundkick Gym, Elite Edge and Des Moines Jiu Jitsu. In about a month he plans to move to San Diego to train with Team Alliance, which also trains Des Moines native Jeremy Stevens.
Despite the impending move, Gorman said Des Moines is always in his heart when he fights.
“I felt like I was representing Des Moines and Iowa when I fought, and in the back of my head it felt like I was going in as a team with all of Des Moines,” Gorman said. “I wanted to win so that everyone in Des Moines could have a big party.”
Wellman’s, 2920 Ingersoll Ave., will be screening the Sept. 4 premiere of “The Ultimate Fighter” with Gorman in attendance. The show starts at 9 p.m.
