Des Moines-based Guitar Kits USA has a Kickstarter campaign in the homestretch

The Des Moines company Guitar Kits USA has (at the moment) 54 hours left its campaign on Kickstarter to sell fiberglass Res-O-Glas guitar body kits. They’re looking to raise $26,000 and have hit 80 percent of that goal.

If you’re interested in one of their guitars, the kits start with a pledge of $245. That’s for the body, you’ll need to add your own neck, pickup, strings, tuners and few other things to make it a functional guitar. If you want a fully-assembled custom guitar, that’s $699.

Original Res-O-Glas guitars from the 60s can sell for around $3,000. The fiberglass body gives the instrument a different feel and sound than wooden guitars. They’re similar to the guitars Jack White regularly plays with.

Res-O-Glas guitars were made in Chicago in the 196s. Guitar Kits USA revived the brand and has been making them in Des Moines since 2005.
