Des Moines YP Alex Duong shares his 3 tips for success and more
Alex Duong came to America from Vietnam when he was just 12 years old and he couldn’t speak one word of English. With hard work, the now 24-year-old Duong graduated from Drake University in 2012 and currently works as a marketing coordinator for Mediacom in Des Moines.
Alex sticks with 3 tips to achieve success in Des Moines as a young professional:
1. Believe in yourself and know that you can do it. The road to success is very challenging, but don’t ever give up. Follow your dream and be passionate about what you do. Only you can make it happen by overcoming obstacles down the road. Always ask yourself if you really enjoy what you are doing and if you are happy where you are now.
2. Never give up. Early in my career, before getting this job, I was let down by several professional people. When that happens, don’t let it bother you because they are often the ones who feel uncomfortable when they see someone else who is attempting to do what they couldn’t do. Use those experiences to motivate yourself to try even harder. Perhaps they are jealous of your drive and your ambition to succeed.
3. Network and find mentors who will guide you in the right path. Follow their leadership and learn from them. Take good notes, don’t let fear stop you, and most importantly, never stop learning.
