Cup O Kryptonite’s new alter ego: Capes Kafe

Cup O Kryptonite got its start more than a decade ago as a combination comic book store and coffee shop, first on the south side, and now located at 2608 Beaver Ave. With the new the shop had to stop selling beverages, but the coffee makers will come out of storage when it moves to the Des Moines Social Club this spring.
But the move also comes with a new name: Capes Kafe. Why the new name? Owners Curtis and Kyle Porter explained it thusly in a press release:
“It came in a vision — a man appeared in a flaming mug of joe and said unto them, ‘From this day on you are Capes Kafé, with a ‘K.’ ‘Thank you, Mister Man,’ they said, thanking him.”
Does that make sense? Eh, but there’s a rich history of name changes in comics. Hank Pym alone has been Ant-Man, Giant Man, Yellow Jacket, Goliath, Wasp and was the Scientist Supreme of earth for a time. Kitty Pryde has gone by Ariel, Sprite and Shadowcat. The savage Wolverine was once Mr. Creampuff.
OK, that last one might not be true.
