Corn dogs: Iowa’s signature foodstuff, according to Deadspin

Every state has its food specialty.
Louisiana is known for its gumbo and Illinois has its notable Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Deadspin recently named and ranked the signature food item for each state in the nation (plus the District of Columbia) in its Great American Menu: Foods Of the States, Ranked and Mapped.
Iowa came in ranked at number 29 for corn dogs, an Iowa State Fair favorite.
Who doesn’t love a corndog? Nobody, that’s who, and also idiots. On the other hand, when a region’s entire concept of cuisine is to take ordinary foodstuffs (hot dogs, brownies, f*****g honey), dunk them in batter, mount them on a stick, and deep-fry them, the successes (corndogs) tend to be shadowed somewhat by the excesses (deep-fried Snickers bars), the horrors (chocolate-covered deep-fried cheesecake), the oh-f**k-this-has-to-be-some-kind-of-goofy-Iowa-troll-job jobs (f******g deep-fried honey), and the lingering suspicion that Midwesterners suffer from a congenital lack of tastebuds.
