Cook, eat local: Iowa chefs create farmers market-fresh recipes

The rules:

The challenge is rooted in locavorism: Spend no more than $20 at any Des Moines metro area farmers market. Ingredients purchased there plus one additional ingredient of the chef’s choosing would be used to make a dish. No stipulations were placed on mealtime or type, just find fresh, local food and combine to make something delicious. Some chefs added kitchen staples, some sourced locally to fill holes.

This culinary collective we gathered gives testament to the idea that cooks can make something wholesome and delicious and support local growers at the same time. Fresh, local ingredients are combined to make an exquisite dining experience.
