Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival featured in Ripley’s Believe it or Not! book

The latest Ripley’s Believe it or Not! book, “Dare to Look,” features an event familiar to Iowans, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. The 2013 incarnation of the event was included for featuring “more than 10,000 pounds of bacon served in bizarre ways.” Baconfest is featured in the food section of the book.

When reached for comment via email, Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival organizer Brooks Reynolds said:

“You better believe it!  We have the largest bacon showcase of any bacon festival in the world.  At the 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival we hope to have 20+ bacon purveyors, 40+ restaurants, eight bacon lectures, one Bacon Queen, 15,000 lbs of bacon and a few other bacony surprises!  We’ll also help raise over $40,000 for local charities across Iowa.  Never in our wildest dreams did we think a small gathering of Bacon Enthusiasts at the Porter Cabin in Spirit Lake, Iowa would turn into such a seriously awesome bacon happening!  OHHHH, BACON!”

The 2014 Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival will be held Feb. 1 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The on sale date, theme and more will be announced the second week of November.
