3 Questions with Kevin Drew

Kevin Drew, 33, is the vocalist for Marcato, which plays a CD release show at 8 p.m. Friday at House of Bricks, 525 E. Grand Ave.
Q: What prompted you guys to fund your “Artifact” EP through Indiegogo?
We had seen a lot of our musician friends have success with raising funds for projects in the past through sites like that. It takes a bit of pressure off the bands and gives us the opportunity to give a little bit more to our fans. We offered an exclusive T-shirt and hoodie that we won’t be selling at shows, and two bonus tracks as well. It’s a fun way to get some funding beforehand and also connect with really supportive fans.
Q: Marcato wasn’t playing regularly for a few years. Why is that?
We had a lineup change five years ago and took a lot of time off to write. Once we got our current bass player in the mix (Nathan Stevenson), things started moving again. I thought it was a good opportunity to really focus on writing and not be playing shows every weekend.
Q: How does it feel to be back in front of crowds again?
It feels really good. I really enjoy performing, and being in the studio for such a long time makes you kind of anxious to play again. We’re looking to book more shows in the fall. We want to get back into it slowly, playing more shows locally as we fine-tune our live set.
